Links

There comes a time in life when you decide to temporarily leave my blog and visit other virtual pastures. When that time arrives, make sure you go to these pastures:

General Links:

  • Engrish.com – Is you life devoid of laughter? Humor? Light? Visit Engrish and cheer up. You will. I promise. It offers a wide range of true and unintentional mistranslations of the English language that’ll be sure to put a smile on your face.
  • Wikipedia – If you don’t know what Wikipedia is, then do yourself a favor immediately and click the link. A free, web-based encyclopedia that’s kept up by the world (seriously, anyone can contribute), prepare to lose hours of your time jumping from one entry to another and learning more in an afternoon than you ever thought you could.
  • Space Weather – Find out how sunspot 955 is faring and whether or not you should bring your umbrella to the moon. Features daily pictures of the final frontier.
  • Project Gutenberg – Want to read free books? Don’t live close by a library? Then visit Project Gutenberg, a site dedicated to free distribution of published works whose copyrights have run out and whatnot. There, you’ll find tons of classics, ranging from Shakespeare to H.G. Wells, for free.

Game-Related Links:

  • A Virtual Past – See how a number of modern video games have been inspired by ancient Japanese myths. Guaranteed to educate.
  • Game Rankings – THE best site when it comes to digging up the dirt on a particular title. Want to know which version of Over the Hedge: The Game is right for you? Check out gamerankings and see how it got rated across multiple press reviews.
  • GameFAQs – Who needs player’s guides anymore? With gamefaqs, answers to your most burning gaming questions are revealed. Want to know how to topple a formidable boss? At which level Pikachu learns Thundershock? How many hits it takes to get to the center of a secret spot? It’s all at GameFAQs, and more.
  • IGN – Though IGN features a whole host of different channels, they’re best known for their gaming coverage. Up-to-date previews and in-depth reviews give you some of the most comprehensive information on any particular game you want to know about.
  • 1up.com – A little more flashy, a little less in-depth, 1up still delivers, and exclusively on games. A good source for reviews and previews, and they tend to have better grammar than the guys above.

Anime-related Links:

  • Anime News Network – Quite literally, the Holy Grail when it comes to anime information. Reviews, a comprehensive encyclopedia, Q&A, weekly features, etc, etc–if you like anime, or are at all curious about a particular show, you’d better go there.
  • AniDB – One of THE best sources, along with ANN, if you want to find out the deets on a specific series or film. Though the summaries are sparse at best, the in-depth info–ranging from production houses to episode titles to user reviews–is indispensible, especially for shows that still haven’t made it to Western shores.
  • THEM Anime Reviews – Honest and (generally) fair opinions on a ton of shows, some of which still aren’t available in the West. If the user reviews of AniDB happen to piss you off, you might want to try these guys. They’re more in the vein of ANN, though with less clutter.
